I wouldn’t count on a sensible choice for VP with Romney. I have a hunch that many GOP-e types are convinced that McCain lost in 2008 because he didn’t go with a “safe” moderate, establishment choice. I anticipate an equally insipid GOP-e moderate or liberal VP choice for Romney.
Romney needs to carry some key mid-western states. Without OH its game over. He carried OH by under 1%. He won MI by a mere 3% points over Santorum. There’s a good chance that Santorum may bring PA into the red state column. Besides he needs to energize evangelical voters. But most important is that Santorum as VP will be a strong conservative counterbalance to Romney.
