Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich may not appear on the ballot for the June 26 Utah primary, after a $500 check the required filing fee bounced, an official said.
State election director Mark Thomas told ABC News that a $500 check given by the Gingrich campaign to secure his place on the Utah ballot bounced on March 27.
Our office immediately attempted to contact the campaign and the designated agent but no phone calls were returned, Thomas said. We also asked the state Republican Party to assist us, but they also could not get into communication with them, although I do not know how they attempted to contact them.

Utah? More dirty tricks from Romney?
Romney has cheated in state after state.
Mr. Santorum WON Iowa — but Romney stole the credit.
Well then, hang your hat on Romney.
Many of us aren’t conceding, we’re not suspending, we’re not giving up, nor giving in, not for anything, or anybody.
Newt is still in and he’s broke. I hang with Newt. We hang together or separately anyway.
Money bomb on Wednesday for Newt! Eagles up!
“the type of message that beats Obambi”
How about the type of message that reverses Obama’s dirty deeds? Have you listened to what Gingrich will do if elected president?
Forget about the “bounced check.” Newt is the one we need in the White House.
“Utah”
Great point. Hume was merciless last night against Newt. This morning Fox opened with Gingrich bouncing checks. The slaughter begins.
Maybe he could give them a piece of jewelry instead of a check?
Been there. Done that.
If this is Newt's fault and he's the one directly managing his money, then his campaign's in bigger trouble than we thought. OTH, he probably has sixteen different bank accounts and didn't transfer the money quick enough. Like I said, been there...done that.
Not at all. Santorum had a huge amount of credit for essentially tying.
The vote was less than 100 votes; everyone knew totals would change.
The conspiracy theory stuff here is just flat out wrong
It is time to bite the bullet, eat crow, accept the fact that Romney is going to be the GOP nominee.
Ergo, in November, it will be Romney or Obama.
Grin and bear it.
Or bear it.
The choice will be Romney or Obama.
Reality bites.
We have a good idea of what another 4 years of Obama will do to the Nation.
The main factor for Romney may be whom he selects as his VP.
Herman Cain has a good overview on F&F this morning that Romney should not or would not select: Bush, Palin, Gingrich, Christie. Instead, he would probably select from Rubio, West, Ryan.
Obambi sounds rather queer.
Agreed. Bouncing $500 checks is just pitiful.
If you have the money spend it on Tea Party folks running to clean out the congress. Newt is never ever going to get the nomination and your money might help get rid of Luger in the Senate or guys like Marchant in TX - old republicans that “bring home the bacon” when what we need is to clean out the pig pen.
Are you sure you can say that kind of stuff on FR?
Saw that. Cain did a really good job in that interview. I still think we are looking Rubio or Ryan - maybe Portman as some suggest.
“Utah? More dirty tricks from Romney?”
Really? Romney drained Newt’s account, that’s what you’re saying?
Whew. Someone needs to take a break.
Okay.
Go hang your hat on Romney then.
I’m stickin’ to Newt.
Agree with you 100% . But posting any supportive comments for Romney right now on FR, - well you may as well just be posting them to the Newt for Pres web site. Few here seem to be living in a reality world, still pinning their hopes on Newt, who has zero chance of winning the nomination.
On August 27th the GOP Convention in Tampa will be in full swing. The rest of us former Cain, Perry, Bachman, and Santorum supporters will be glued to the TV screen listening to guest speaker and after guest speaker giving awesome speeches about closing the door of opportunity to the shadow communist behind Obama like, Bill Ayers, George Soros, Cass Sunstein, Van Jones, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and the rest of the radicals he surrounds himself with and admires. You can bet there will still be some diehards left on FR still be actively fighting against the Republican ticket with their continuous barrage of anti-Romney post.
He has some very bad and incompetent people in his campaign. Not a good reflection on his ‘hiring’ or ‘management’ abilities.
He’s never really had a career where he’s had to manage a large group. He’s been primarily an ‘intellectual’ thinker, and legislator with small staff, with very little career experience in the way of organizational responsibilities.
And you accept the word of the mormon cultists in Utah?
Utah is winner take all anyway, why should Gingrich even waste $500 to get on the ballot, when the cultists are just going to support one of their own with 95%+ numbers.
