I am not one bit surprised.

Romney will still lose the election.

I suspect that a good many Saintorum supporters will now get behind Romney, but I also suspect that the principled folks will not.

I think most Santorum supporters would be fine with Romney, because essentially they were just big-government “conservatives” who were conservative only on the so-called social issues. Now that Santorum isn’t there to offer them the RINO with a socon glaze, they’ll just vote their hearts (big-government) and hope that Romney will consult the backers on his planet and at least pretend to support some socon positions through the election.

Frankly, I don’t even think he’ll bother. He knows he has them. Look for Romney to shed any pretense of conservatism and go for the “independents” (that is, Dems who simply don’t like Obama).
