Forget the "thinly veiled" part - let's have it, full-on, straight-up! I am sick and tired of busting my {expletive} to support my family only to have a significant percentage of my income confiscated by a fascist/socialist government and redistributed to those that are too lazy to work, too lazy to improve themselves and their lot. There is a huge under-class of people out there quite willing to settle for a lifestyle at whatever level the government will support them at, augmented by whatever illegal enterprises they can get away with.
Enough! I work to enjoy the fruits of my labor, not to support some great socialist experiment. If I support someone down on their luck, in need of a hand up (not a hand out) it should be my choice to expend my resources (time, money, etc.). Not the governments choice to confiscate my resources and expend how they see fit! Never! You want my help, show me how you're getting out of your situation, not just getting by on whatever you can beg/borrow/steal from me via the government.
So yeah, let's have some social Darwinism. Let those who care so little for themselves fall, those who heed the wakeup call can work like the rest of us.

The current welfare state is epitomized by the “single mom” showing up at the food pantry to get food dropped off by someone who drives a 10+ yr old car.
She wears new clothes, new shoes, her kids have the latest athletic wear, she has hair extensions and freshly manicured nails, and drives a new car.
All her “wants” are fulfilled because people of better character are sacrificing their own families’ wealth paying for her needs.
ENOUGH.
