The general public will look at this vs. the skyrocketing cost of gas, and come to the conclusion that the Law of Supply and Demand is not working anymore. Economies of scale go in reverse when you decrease production.

You are correct of course. But most of the General Public did not take Econ 101 (or if they did, they slept thru it)
