When I first began listening to it, slowing it down, speeding it up, adjusting stuff, it became immediately clear the word began with a “P”.
For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out what word it was. I was pretty sure it sounded like “pogue”, which is a military epithet I AM familiar with, but it completely didn’t fit the context.
I just went to Youtube and there are loads of people who hear “punks” posting. There is even one video where that is the claim in the title. The rest of course are videos claiming it was “coons.”
Once you hear it properly it’s clear even in the un-enhanced recording. It looks like lots of people are snapping to it on their own even without enhanced audio. I suppose younger ears are a bit better than mine if ya know whadda mean?
