(Warrensville Heights) - Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies were sweeping through Warrensville Heights Thursday.

It’s the launch of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office Impact Units in Cuyahoga County towns. The deputies will help serve warrants and curb drug and gang-related problems by doing surveillance, canvassing neighborhoods and gathering information.

Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, Sheriff Bob Reid and area Police Chiefs held a news conference to discuss the effort.

The goal of the Impact Unit is to strengthen the partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement by helping in all facets of Community Oriented Policing, ultimately impacting crime and the quality of life within Cuyahoga County.

IUs will be available upon request to supplement existing law enforcement areas within a community.

Impact Units will be comprised of experienced, trained deputies who will be available to assist any local law enforcement entity within Cuyahoga County. The IUs will be formed as a unit of the Sheriff’s Office criminal division and will provide the following services (as well as others assigned) to local law enforcement:

• Neighborhood canvass

• Area surveillance

• Robberies

• Traffic Enforcement in areas determined to be high accident areas

• Traffic enforcement in areas determined to be high DWUI areas

• Checkpoints to look for witnesses or suspects

• Other approved part one offense crimes.

FitzGerald announced the units last May, after he pledged to set aside $1 million of the county's sales tax revenue to hire new deputies and buy equipment, including squad cars.

Why does this bother me?

Checkpoints to look for witnesses or suspects? Canvass and surveillance? For traffic enforcement?

Cuyahoga county, Ohio...the most liberal county in state and the one county that knows how to throw a whole election!

Impact Units, great....just great....

Nothing to see or fear here...

I like to draw parallels between this sort of activity happening in the US and similar garbage that happened in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Soviet Russia. We’re already more than halfway to a dictatorship. Rebels and patriots have died in attempts to overthrow these types of governments by this point in the past. Why it is that American cows are simply allowing themselves to be led to slaughter is beyond me.

The Liberal mind is diseased.

This area has been working very hard for nearly a decade to ‘regionalize’ everything, from law enforcement to economics.

I sat through one of the massive group studies orginally conducted at Akron. We spent several hours going through a public opinion survey and it was amazing at the end when they flashed up on the results screen...the literal opposite of what the results should have been.

I walked out of that event a bit confused, but it opened my eyes to what was going on. I was very naive at the time.

"The goal of the Impact Unit is to strengthen the partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement provide a fig leaf (and overtime) for cops who have done a piss-poor job to date in performing their duties.

Yeah. Maybe they could also distribute guns to drug dealers and then track them! What could go wrong?
