Mitt Romney lands prize on Hill visit

Mitt Romney huddled privately with Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Thursday and came away with a big prize: something close to an endorsement from the Senate’s most outspoken conservative.

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who backed Romney in 2008 but has remained on the sidelines this year as the former Massachusetts governor labors to win the nomination, said it’s time the rest of the field consider bowing to the inevitable.

“We all need to look at this presidential primary and encourage the candidates to do a little self-reflection here on what’s good for our country,” DeMint told reporters after a morning sit-down with the front-runner. “The sooner we can make a decision, the sooner we can focus on the real problem, which is [President Barack] Obama.”

Saying he expects the prolonged and often heated presidential battle to end “pretty soon,” DeMint added: “There’s no need to drag this to a convention if it’s pretty clear who our nominee is.”

Without mentioning Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum by name, DeMint said that “the best thing they can do is maybe look at kind of throwing their support behind the one who might be our nominee. And that’s beginning to look like Romney.”

Not quite an endorsement, but the sound of accepting what is to come.

Support DeMint's Conservative Fund. Let's at least get the Senate moved to the right.

DeMint has shown himself to be an idiot who supports
RomneyCARE, and DEATHpanels.

He is a RINO — and no more respect is warranted.

Screw DeMint and the horse he and Romney rode in on...

“There’s no need to drag this to a convention if it’s pretty clear who our nominee is.”

It’s not clear Jim.

Romney has bought the states of his delegates and at a brokered convention these same delegates will be free to choose a new candidate. This is where Newt shall shine and Santorum will mop the floor of this hideous phony.

No, no he isn't. He is a decent, respectful, conservative, faithful man.

16 Reasons Why Mitt Romney Would Be A Really, Really Bad President

Teacher to college class: "After reading this list who still wants to vote for Romney?"

#1 Romneycare was what Obamacare was based on

#2 During his time as governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney significantly raised taxes.

#3 Government spending in Massachusetts increased significantly under Mitt Romney.

#4 It turns out that Mitt Romney is a believer in the theory of man-made global warming.

#5 If Mitt Romney becomes president, we may actually have "cap and trade" shoved down our throats.

#6 Mitt Romney had a horrible record of creating jobs while governor of Massachusetts.

#7 Mitt Romney was a very enthusiastic supporter of the Wall Street bailouts.

#8 If Romney becomes president, get ready for a flood of liberal judges.

#9 Mitt Romney is incredibly soft on illegal immigration.

#10 While he was governor, Mitt Romney received advice on global warming and carbon emissions from the man who is now the top science adviser to Barack Obama.  John P. Holdren, has some very, very disturbing ideas: he once wrote the following....

#11 Mitt Romney has been a huge supporter of gun control laws.

#12 Mitt Romney once claimed that he was more "pro-choice" than Ted Kennedy, but now he claims that he is pro-life.

#13 During this campaign season, Mitt Romney has stated that he only supports partnership agreements for gay couples and not gay marriage,

#14 As late as 2007, Mitt Romney was a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership.  The following is what romneyexposed.com says about this organization....

#15 According to the Huffington Post, Mitt Romney has raised more money from lobbyists than all of the other Republican candidates combined.

#16 Mitt Romney is a big time Wall Street insider.  It is estimated that Romney has a personal fortune of approximately a quarter of a billion dollars, and Wall Street money is being absolutely showered on his campaign.

And then there is this -- Romney is a member of a non-Christian cult, Mormonism:

Cults, Movements, World Religions
Sects and Satanic Cults

I believe this will hurt DeMint more than it will help Romney.

Romney is a liberal of the first water and a liar.

He changes his mind more often than he changes his magic underwear.

No, no he isn't. He is a decent, respectful, conservative, faithful man.

He just proved that all of his TEA Party talk was just that---talk---that when the rubber meets the road, he's Party first, Conservative second.

Now he can go away with the rest of the GOP-E.

I wrote DeMint and I wrote the Senate Conservative fund stating that an endorsement of Romney meant that I would no longer support any candidate they espoused. I would like to encourage any and all freepers to email DeMint and The Senate Conservative Fund, easy to find via Google, and express their feelings on this endorsement. The numbers matter, the silent majority must be silent no longer.

I, too, fired off a couple of emails to them and returned their recent solicitation for more funds with a letter. Very, very disappointed in him. Up to this time I have pretty much agreed with those he recommended but not this one - it’s too important.

I used to support DeMint’s fund but will not any longer due to his endorsement of Romney.

I will contribute directly to the Conservative candidates of MY choice...don’t need a” middle man” org. to waste my money.

If we nominate Romney, Romney will lose.

On another thread, WhiskeyX's analysis is very good on Republican Primaries being manipulated by RINOs, and mind-numb Democrats following marching orders from the left.

Very well described!
Maybe it's time we got some DINOs to copy this evil plan against Democrats.
But who would soil their name and credibility, to do such an evil thing against the real evildoers? "

If he'd support Romney, why would anyone think his fund is going to move the Senate to the right?

“Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who backed Romney in 2008 “

He just continues to support lyin’ “conservatives”. I am saddened.
