You make a good analysis and I wont quarrel. But as Rush says maybe just maybe Romney is the conservative alternative He has agreed to defund Planned Parenthood, a convert to the anti-abortion cause, and does not believe in gay marriage and is prepared to take on the Chinese and the Iranians. Well simply have to hold his feet to the fire. But this is not an election for anyone who believes in God and country to sit it out. That would border on treason. In the general, its anybody but Obama.
There is nothing in Mitt's record so support the following assumptions:
1. He has made an honest conversion to conservatism.
2. He has quit lying. (Quite the opposite, remember the recent "I've always been Pro-Life" statement at CPAC?)
3. That anyone would be able to hold his feet to the fire.
You're living on hope.
The last time America did that, we got Obama.

Re #3, our power is in our votes. If we still had the power to hold anyone’s feet to the fire, the Rep freshmen would have mutinied, and Boehner would have been out on his @ss by the end of 2009.

Er, make that mid 2011. :-)
