Campaigning at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. yesterday, Mitt Romney quickly criticized a student for wanting "free stuff" from the government.
"You're all for like 'yay freedom and all this stuff and yay pursuit of happiness,'" said the college-aged girl. "You know what would make me happy? Free birth control."
"Let me tell you something, if you're looking for free stuff that you don't have to pay for, vote for the other guy," Romney told the student. "That's what he's all about."
Romney continued, "Politicians get up and promise you all kinds of free stuff, more and more stuff that you won't have to pay for and you know what? We get elected that way, in many cases, politicians do, that's not something I subscribe to.
Romney insisted on telling the truth to voters and "demand sacrifices" from people.
"The idea that of borrowing a trillion dollars more than we bring in is not just bad economics, its immoral," Romney said to the crowd.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, I'm not so sure that this statement is seen as a negative against Obama....
Next thing you know, Mitt, they’ll be wanting free health care.
In my day it was the guy’s responsibility to bring birth control. What’s with all these chicks wanting it for free, not worth a buck or so to a guy?
He should have told her to get a job & pay for it herself.
lol... I see what you did there.
Should have told her to move to Mass. and get a job at a Catholic hospital. He fixed it there. Gees, he’s not even president yet.
For those that listen to Romney it’s nothing new. I tend to listen to all the speeches on primary night. Romney’s talks are all conservative and anti-Obama.
If you think he’s just a liar that’s cool, but he gives a good speech.
BTW, he should add that it’s not “free” anyway.
Just like Mitt. Wait till to see if the issue is a winner and then join the battle. Let Rush do the heavy lifting, while distancing your self from him and then take credit when the work is done, that’s leadership, that’s Mitt.
He should have started off:
‘Look, you dumb slut...’
Shouldn’t somebody pay for the dinner and drinks to get her in the sack too?
Pray for America
In my day "responsibility" meant bringing the girl a engagement ring and a marriage vow.
He missed a truly unique opportunity to show exactly what this is about, and missed it. Proper answer would have been along the lines of:
“There is no such thing a “free” goods, or services. Someone has to pay for them. If you are receiving them from the government, then they are being paid for by taxes paid by other people; since the government doesn’t create wealth, it only redistributes.
A lot of Americans do no want to pay for your contraception and would have to be forced to do so at the point of a gun to do so, otherwise.
So, what you are really asking for is the “right” to force someone, against their will, to pay for something you want. The same argument can be made for tax payer funded abortion, as well as a whole host of liberal social entitlement policies.
That is the definition of slavery...you support slavery in a very real and true sense, how very progressive of you.”
It's like deja vu, all over again!
Imho, Romney is a calculating sob. He is the one who ridiculed and evaded Stephanopolous’ birth control question, and he’s never looked back on the issue. Santorum got himself tarred with it, however unfairly.
I don’t think Obama underestimates Romney, I’m sure they view R as a cold hearted operator.
She should just put a Mason jar beside her bed for ‘tips’.
Romneycare.
I think she captures Jefferson's sentiments exactly. /s
Not this Conservative. This guy has no moral compass. If this were a room full of Rats in the General election, he would have agreed with this broad. Political expediency is Milts middle name. He has a terrible track record of coming down on the right side of an issue and sticking with it.
