The headline could be: Prosecutor faces loss of power, desperately whines about it.

Even if a convicted felon were to kill someone in self defense with a firearm in his home, he might be prosecuted for felon in possesion of a firearm but the self defense for the killing would still stand up.

It is precisely because of prosecuiters like Fayette that castle doctrine laws like this are needed.

"[T]he prosecutorial community" is an artificial construct made up of persons hired by the People of the State of Alaska to prosecute crimes, and it had better dammed* well support whatever the hail** those People choose for themselves in the way of self-defense policy or else resign en masse and let those same People "provide new Guards for their future security."***

* Dammed: blocked by an artificial structure to alter the path of a waterway.

**Hail: precipitation in the form of lumps of ice; a greeting.

***A quote from the US Declaration of Independence (1776).

He also took issue with Fayette, who was invited to speak by committee Chair Hollis French,...

I believe Hollis French was the Alaskan friend of either David Axelrod or Rahm Emmanuel who instigated and pushed the fraudulent "troopergate" charges against Sarah Palin. He was the White House's inside man in Alaska in the many efforts to harass and smear Palin and her family in Alaska.

“prosecutorial community”

Good grief. What next? The athlete’s foot community? The mole-on-the-posterior community? The whining leftist moron community?

Fayette said the bill would unintentionally give people guilty of murder under current law an out in court. By removing the duty of a person to retreat whenever possible, he said, they could claim they killed someone in self-defense in just about any situation.

It appears obvious that this asswipe has never heard of the POLICE before.

A bill that would expand the right to use lethal force as a means of self-defense is dangerous, without support in the prosecutorial community, and rife with potential unintended consequences, an Anchorage prosecutor said Friday.

Oh, well, if the DA's are against it, it MUST be bad. [facepalm] Does this fool seriously think his profession still has a well of credibility to draw upon??

By removing the duty of a person to retreat whenever possible, he said, they could claim they killed someone in self-defense in just about any situation.

An absurd statement made by a liberal petty tyrant wannabe. No one has a duty to retreat from an attack. That notion places a burden on the attacked to be almost omniscient and able to think of every possibility for retreat while under attack. It gives the prosecutor a way to turn hindsight into a tool to make every victim of assault, who turns the tables on their attacker, into a criminal.
