The very opposite happened. It actually increased the behavior they were trying to control or stop. And the criminal infrastructure that arose during prohibition didn't go away. They moved on to smuggling and distributing other controlled substances.

Yes, that is correct, it also helped the Mafia establish a 70 year dynasty and build a shrine to Sin and debauchery of the likes that can never be matched and it will last for another century! (Las Vegas)
