religious conversions save the soul, lift the spirit, etc. give you a reason for living and a reason for being good.

they might heal your personality defects, or they might not. if they healed it all, everyone in churches would be delightful.

Okay, he’s on the left side of the culture wars and he believes that governments purpose is to collect wealth to give to connected aristocracy members in exchange for political kickbacks.

Romney's an East coaster, They're all libs who have no clue how the people fare in the flyover states. We've been dished that crap sandwich for two plus centuries.

If elected, Romney has a whole different base constuenciency than obummer. He will have to deal with that so it is very hard for me to imagine he will be nearly the threat to our republic that obummer has proven to be.

He is the lesser of two weavils. Hold your nose and get obummer out of there.

If obama wins the GOP will oppose him for political reasons, if mutt wins, the GOP will support him for political reasons and we have nothing to stop him.

If obummer wins there is a fair chance that our republic will end as we know it. I don't care who opposes him after re-election, they will be enemies of the state.

The only way to prevent that is to prevent his re-election. Insert your candidate here__________________.

I don't care who _________________is as long they get that Kenyan SOB outta there.

It is now a two man race, so do you support willard?

No. I completely support Santorum and will vote enthusiastically for him when the primary gets here to Md— but the fact is Gingrich is giving Romney the nomination by ensuring he wins lukewarm pluralities. And Romney is the best organized of the lot, with more delegates filed than the others, which gives him “wins” even when Santorum gets more votes.

Those who continue to support Gingrich will be the ones who will face the tough decision of whether to vote in Nov. for the guy they inadvertently handed the nomination to—Mitt Romney.

At least when I cross that Rubicon I won’t have to face the double reality that I created my own conundrum.

Good luck with all that.

You are dead on right. Newt cannot win, even at a brokered convention. I do not understand the denial of pure logic by the newt supporters here.

The ONLY way one could still support and enthuse over Gingrich for president is if one wished for Gingrich, but Romney were your second choice. Because at this stage for the Gingrich campaign, it’s time to say , “Well, Newt can’t get it, but his still being in the race helps Romney, my next best choice.”

And I’m not sure how conservative that thinking is, but it’s a free country. Obviously a lot of people out there like Romney. I just thought Free Republic wasn’t among the fans of Mitt.

But the Newt fanatics are fanatical about Newt. Look at my post #106 and what I was responding to. The instant you state the obvious about Newt’s role in the race, here at FR you are simply castigated and accused of all sorts of treachery and treason and blah blah blah.

The fact is, a percentage of the conservative movement is pathologically self-defeating. They only trust candidates who eventually lose in the end. A winner? Has to be something wrong with them.

Your point is completely valid.

The above poll, to the extent that it’s valid, illustrates what I was trying to say, that Newt’s continuation MIGHT prevent Romney from getting a majority. On the other hand, I heard Rasmussen in a Fox appearance, stating totally different results, namely that if Newt got out, his supporters would overwhelmingly support Romney. So, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

"his supporters would overwhelmingly support Romney."

That was a mistake- I meant to say Santorum.
