Polish airmen who escaped from Poland in 1939 flew for the RAF in WWII as fighter pilots. They formed the 303 Squadron, which was the most successful of all RAF units in shooting down German bombers, and made a major contribution to the RAF’s victory in the Battle of Britain in 1940.
After the war, the Brits refused to let them march in the Victory Parade of 1946, in deference to their buddy Joe Stalin.
