Lack-of-choices syndrome.
At the moment of truth, faced with two options (plus some others which have no hope of winning and affect only making it harder for one of the two to win), most conservatives will choose Romney. This will be immediately followed by mumbling “well that sucked, better go hunker down for the crash” or some such realization that choosing the lesser of two evils still nets evil.
