Remember, the goal is to keep Mittens from 1144. The public opinion impact of losing not one but TWO states - and finishing third - cannot be overstated.

Given that goal, I'm not so sure I don't wish Newt would stay in the race. On the one hand it makes it easier for Romney to win with his usual 28% RINO bloc, but on the other gives us a chance for either a contested or brokered convention.

I don't really care about the candidate provided he/she is at least a vanilla conservative (which precludes Romney). I care a great deal, though, about exorcising the monster that currently holds the WH in its tentacles. Those who share that goal may want to think twice before proclaiming they "won't vote" for Santorum.

(As an aside, I'm not sure I would be able to vote for Romney, but Rick, while not perfect, has given me no rational basis for such an opinion.)
