Kissinger says Putin is a 'patriot'

WASHINGTON — Former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger said Sunday that Russia's president-elect Vladimir Putin is a "patriot" who could turn out to be a constructive partner with the United States on certain issues.

Kissinger said Putin, who was elected to a third term as president in an election marred by irregularities and protests against his rule, "is not anti-western."

"He is, above all, a Russian patriot who feels humiliated by the experience of the 1990s, which were in the most formative period of his career," Kissinger said in an interview with CNN, referring to the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union and the crisis that followed.

"He is very resentful of what he interprets as intervention in Russian domestic affairs and even more, of course, in what he may interpret and does interpret as some American tendencies to support his political opponents in order to encourage his overthrow," he said.

Yes Putin is a patriot, a Soviet patriot.

Yes the collapse of the EVIL EMPIRE he loyally served all his life was very humiliating to him, and yes he resents any attempt to prevent him from resurrecting it.

But Kissinger is not a patriot, so that is no compliment coming from Kissinger.

Russian patriots are those who celebrate the collapse of the EVIL EMPIRE, not those who lament it like Putin, traitor to the Russian people.

Yes, and it concerns me that Gingrich cut his political teeth working for Kissinger.

Love these trilateral commission folk...they have such a good perspective on things...LOL.

We have been so stupid with our elections for a very long time.

We are going to end up deserving everything we get!

Kissinger is a great admirer of dictators and mass murderers, as his writings clearly demonstrate.

"Putin really is a generation beyond the first reformers of the post-Soviet era. He understands that the future of Russia is inside some kind of capitalist system. He understands that Russia is not going to be a global competitor," Gingrich told an audience at the Melbourne 500 Club. - Friending Putin and More Great Ideas

I’m SURE Putin IS a patriot. As was Hitler, Stalin, and any number of other ruthless leaders.

We need photos from the War Room in Dr. Strangelove before this goes much further.

Indeed. The globalists have brought the US(as we know it) to the brink of destruction.

Which side of the cold war was Kissinger on again?

Ok...Throw flames if you like. I have to agree with Kissinger, even though it pains me to do so. The Russians felt we neutered them. They are just trying to regain national pride.

(Running for cover...LOL!)

Henry’s getting sloppy in his old age. Normally, he wouldn’t make it so blindingly obvious that Putin’s check cleared.

I have to say, I agree with Kissinger on this. Putin is certainly an authoritarian thug, but it has to be said, he doesn’t take any s**t from his country’s enemies, which is more than can be said for modern western leaders...

You might get flamed by others, but I agree with you.

I've always felt that Russia was a perfect and natural ally against the real enemy: radical islam.

We should reach out to the Russians as partners. But no, instead we lecture them and humiliate them.

My people come from Eastern Europe. I know about Soviet tyranny. But that was then. Today I'm not worried about Russian tanks rolling across Europe. But I am worried about sharia law creeping into Europe.

I agree as well, Russia can be the best ally we have against Islam if we quit treating as a defeated nation. I don’t know what Putin thinks but I can easily understand the average Russian lamenting the loss of power and influence it once had, I’m sure that’s what many of them miss, not the SU itself.

That’s why I was so pissed over the us intervention in Georgia, its their back yard and pissing them off gets us nowhere.
