While the comedian may be irrelevant, the organization is a big deal, and this event is one of the most prestigious dinners in Washington.

Using old Freeper language, this really **IS** “hugh and series,” and Kristinn deserves huge credit, along with Jim Robinson for making Free Republic a force to be reckoned with. Having the clout to force the most important media people in Washington to back down from their own hypocrisy is not a minor accomplishment.

More broadly, it's a huge example of the power of “crowdsourcing” in the new media to run circles around the paid staff of the old media. Rathergate put Free Republic on the media map, but that's just one example of what Free Republic is capable of doing to counteract the power of liberal media elites.

What just happened, while it won't get as much attention because the comedian backed down before he was forced out publicly like Rather, is another.

Too bad Tony Snow isn't still with us, or by the time this was done, Free Republic might get asked to join the Radio and Television Congressional Correspondents Association and have Kristinn attend the event officially as a member.

Absolutely! I might not agree with Marathoner's salty words, but with him, I'm sick and tired of conservatives playing defense. It's good to see someone on the offense for a change. As CaptainK said, it's time for us to demand that the people accusing Rush Limbaugh of bad behavior apply the same standards to themselves — and they won't be happy.

What Jim Robinson is doing here with Free Republic is the same sort of thing that the media moguls like Hearst, Pulitzer, etc. were doing a century ago. I know the comparisons aren't precise, but they are definitely there, and Free Republic is an important and potentially deadly part of the conservative information network.

I hope the Republican elites and Mitt Romney got the message about the dangers of tangling with Free Republic.
