Dear [Carbonite CEO] Friend,
I have been a satisfied user of Carbonite after hearing about it through Rush Limbaugh, and until today I was also a stockholder of your corporation.
Even after Rush promptly apologized, it appears that you have decided that you no longer wish to be associated with Rush listeners since you have decided to bet your companys growth on a misguided political civility campaign.
AM Talk radio and Rush specifically offer one oasis in the media world where issues can be discussed in a non-PC forum. Important issues that are bankrupting our country and harming ours and our childrens future. Yes, three hours of unscripted and entertaining conversation sometimes leads to errors in judgment and sometimes the wrong words are chosen in haste.
But, even these occasional glitches are nothing compared to the way that conservatives are viewed and described throughout the rest of the almost completely liberal media. You have a right as a business to advertise with who you want, and this is NOT a 1st Amendment issue, but your actions have shown that you do not respect the listeners of Rush, and now the feeling will likely become mutual, to your long-term regret.
I would prefer to deal with a backup company that is not wasting precious resources in an attempt to stifle the available voices that I can listen to to gather political information. A company that is concerned with doing great backups of precious data, not political grandstanding.
How can I get a refund for the unused portion of my 3 year Carbonite membership?
Not sure what the fine print looks like on their 3 year contracts, but someone here was advising small claims courts on the 1 year deal. The poster indicated - which makes a lot of sense - that they're not going to pay a $200 per hour lawyer to defend on a $59 bill.
I'm becoming sure that one of the reasons for their the crushing bitch-slap they got today is not due solely to Rush.
It's mostly due to Rush, but also now that the light is being shined on this company, all kinds of stuff is cropping up; like their lousy contract terms, cheaper available alternatives, the CEO's lefty connections, bad customer service, software problems, poor stock performance etc.
Questions are popping up like "what happens to my data if they go bankrupt" or "do I want a company run by lefties holding my data."
A FReeper on another thread was in charge of maintaining the PCs at his place of work. He cancelled 40 freaking accounts.
The more everyone is learning about Carbonite, it's becoming clear that Rush was a crutch for a hobbling company.
I think they're toast.
