Yes, Newt screwed the pooch on this one. There was a huge opening here if he had just avoided it and waited til Rush’ show on Monday to see what is really up.

Rush apologized ALL by himself.

Newt on Sunday when asked by CNN: ......"Gingrich said the GOP would not be harmed by the controversy surrounding radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, who this week used incendiary language to describe a law student after she testified in a Congressional hearing over contraception coverage. Limbaugh apologized for the remarks Saturday.

"The Republican Party has four people running for president, none of whom is Rush Limbaugh," Gingrich said. "One of them will end up as the nominee, and that person will be the Republican spokesman. I don't think any of them were involved in this controversy at all.".....

AND: “I don’t even know. I wasn’t involved in the conversation.” He continued, “I will say that the news media seems far more eager to talk about Rush Limbaugh’s language than they are to talk about the Barack Obama’s apology to the people who are killing Americans.”

Disagree - Rush probably wishes he had thought a second before commenting the way he did. Newt only applied some common sense and instead of condemning Rush, merely agreed with his follow-on. I was listening when Rush made the comments and I could hear the mental gyrations as he realized he had probably opened a hornets nest and tried to soften the initial comments. He knew he had opened the door to allow another high-jacking of the issues and move it into the realm of the heart vs. the realm of rational thought.

You, an experienced freeper, accept an AP/CNN story at face value?

Newt was immediately hit with Rush questions, including today's yik-yak shows. He handled them very well. In characteristic style he turned them back on the lib questioner and Obama. Sheesh.
