My takeaway from the article is that before Newt lead the GOP takeover in the US House, he did much the same in GA. In the 1970s a GA Republican was just a step above a leper. Newt is a leader. He has stood against rat onslaughts for decades and beat them. All of his experience has been prep for the big show, the saving of our republic.

Newt really consolidated the South for Republicans. If I remember correctly (it was a long time ago) Republicans made huge inroads in the South in 1994. A number of yellow dog Democrats were defeated in Congress (what were left switched parties), and Republicans made big gains at the state level.

And the GOP on the Hill don't want him sitting in the WH telling them NO, or cutting agencies, etc.
