By Associated Press on February 29, 2012

PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota lawmakers have given their final approval to a measure that would allow people to carry concealed handguns without a permit as long as they have a driver’s license and otherwise meet state standards for carrying guns. The Senate voted 22-11 Tuesday to pass the bill, which was approved earlier by the House. It will become law if signed by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

“as long as they have a driver’s license”

I do not drive... I have no drivers license, so I cannot carry.

Okay, so we now force anyone who has the God given RIGHT to defend themselves to go get a Drivers license...

oh yes I can see this as a really big win for our rights.... you get licensed or your a criminal.....

.
Their freedom will be short-lived — blue helmeted UN troops are boarding their assigned aircraft as I write this and will be on their way soon to invade S.D.

Bambi has already given them passage to cross US airspace.

Your home page infers you’re from Austalia. Is that wrong?

It’s better than ‘shall issue’. I’ll take it here in New Hampshire.

“as long as they have a driver’s license”

This is likely minor misreporting. I suspect that any state issued identity card would be acceptable.

I agree. Why do you need a drivers’ license to buy a gun? Make it the same standard as voting. Verify the identity with a photo ID. Who care is it’s a drivers’ license?

"This is likely minor misreporting. I suspect that any state issued identity card would be acceptable."

We briefly talked about this earlier today and I was sure that the reporter got the driver's license requirement wrong.

So I just looked into it now and it is a requirement. A valid state driver's license is specifically required to be exempt from the charge of carrying a concealed weapon in this bill. So if you have no license or have your driving privileges suspended or revoked you would be required to have a CCW permit or carry openly.

Here is the bill's page:

House Bill 1248

Somebody please correct me if I read the bill wrong

Yes I am Australia, and proudly live in the US now... and legally so.

I came here for three things... that Australia does not have nor have we anything like them....

Constitution
Bill of Rights
Declaration of Independence

Can I go back home, yes, do I want to, yes, for a visit, but I came here to live by those three documents and their meanings.

Hmm, I think you understand more about our country than many of those who were born here (or claim to have been). I think I can speak for all patriots and say we’re glad to have you.

P.S. I’d love to visit Australia.

If Governor Doo-Doo doesn't sign it, he'll be a one term governor, and he can start packing his bags to go back to his real home in Chicago, where he went to law school and worked as a lawyer from 1978 to 1981.

I don't vote in SD, which is just a bit over 1100 meters from ny back door, but my fiancee does. And she's got NO room for compromise on this issue.
