Hundreds of people marched through East Haven in protest Saturday, calling for change after four members of the police department were arrested in late January in an FBI racial profiling probe and the mayor subsequently made what many considered an offensive comment in an interview.
Carrying signs and chanting, the crowd poured down Main Street towards Margaret Tucker Park late Saturday morning.
"We're fighting for human rights of the immigrants," said march organizer John Lugo. "And in this city, we're not looking for anything else."
A few dozen people on the opposite side of the street did not share protesters' views.
"I'm here for the East Haven cops because they're just doing their jobs," said Martin Nets. "I've done wrong in the past, I've had to pay the consequences. They're just as equal as I am."
