2 men fined $20,000 for illegal Tahoe tree cutting

Two men have been fined $20,000 for illegally cutting down five trees to improve the Lake Tahoe views from a home owned by one of them.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's governing board approved a settlement agreement Wednesday with Tanner Tingey of Fresno, Calif., who owns a second home near Tahoe City, Calif., on the lake's north shore; and with Trent Udlock of Tahoe City-based Udlock Landscape Construction.

The two men worked together last summer to remove five trees larger than 14 inches in diameter from Carnelian Bay property just below Tingey's Tahoe home, the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza reported (http://bit.ly/wXBwUt ).

Officials with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency said the neighborhood's property owners gave Tingey permission to remove the trees after he voiced concerns about possible fire danger. But officials determined the tree removal wasn't necessary for defensible space around homes, and that the unauthorized cutting improved the Tahoe views from Tingey's property.

Look at the sunny side, Tanner. At least your house isn’t on a wetland. (or maybe you just haven’t been told yet)

Check regulations first. When you get permission, get it in writting and make sure it in stamped by the appropriate official.

Guess they never thought of going to Colorado, getting some beetles, then call the local extension center. Lot’s of ways to kill a tree if you have enough patience.

Hug a tree, shake the nuts loose.

OOPS! sorry. Just happened to spill 25 gallons of gas filling up my mower. Damn shame that, the the cost of gas and all.

Guess I’ll have to cut those dead fire hazards down next year. Damn shame that too.

Hammer a copper nail into the tree, and wait a while.

That is pretty much the norm. You need special permission to cut down a tree in your property from the rangers.I remember several relatives going through the process.

Especially if your property is in a national forest.

LOL, they improved the view of a million dollar house into that of a two million dollar house. Pay the fine, flip the house, and pocket $980,000.

And don't think for a second they didn't make that calculation.

How does a Chevy Tahoe cut down a tree?

I'm sure it can mow down a small tree, like the ones in Michigan that Romney thinks are just the right height, but I don't think Chevy makes a California Chainsaw Special Edition Tahoe, or do they?

TheJust drop hints around town first that the ELF/Earth First is threatening landowners with property damage first and intends to make their property uninhabitable so as to facilitate a return to it’s natural state.

Funny what you hear at the local pub with all the eco freaks in those parts. And they do have a track record of spiking trees...and property damage.

Just before I moved into a place on the 30 foot bluffs on the beach (So. Cal.), the owner had poured concrete over the bare, rapidly eroding bluffs, protecting them from the rapid deterioration, he was fined $10,000 dollars (in about 1990) but he did it knowing that penalty was coming, and as cheap as he normally was, he smiled that he got away with the desperate move. The last 20 years have proved him right, you should see the next property over, where nothing has been done.
