It's never easy to admit when you're wrong, but I have to admit I was. I thought we could go in, stabilize the country, put the beginnings of a government and infrastructure, and get out. I didn't think we'd ever make it Connecticut, but maybe a Kazakhstan.

Afghanistan is populated with some of the worst people on earth. It will NEVER be anything even approaching some semblance of a civilized nation.

In retrospect, we should have told the taliban they had 72 hours to give up OBL, or we'd nuke Kabul. Assuming they didn't capitulate, give them 48 hours or we'll nuke Khandahar and Herat. Then 24 hours and we'll strike Jalalabad, Mazir-e-Sharif, and Kunduz. And so on and so on until we were relatively sure OBL was dead, or at least persona non-grata to any nation on earth.

I think it's been proved beyond reasonable doubt that muslims cannot be civilized and the only way to deal with them is to bring down the fires of hell when they step out of line.

Of course they can’t-they still live in the Dark Ages of the late 7th century. When Russia was almost as uncivilized and out of touch, Peter the Great warned the people he would “drag Russia kicking and screaming into the modern world”, and proceeded to do so. Since no leader in Trashcanistan has the balls to do that and resists our every attempt to do so, it is time for us to just get the hell out. If any of their minions attack us again, trash their infrastructure back to the stone age like my parents told me the US and their allies did in WWII...

We could have, and we had a very good model to work from...Imperial Japan.

Up until VJ Day, the Japanese people considered Hirohito a god, and their fanatic zeal reflected that. Not unlike the Afghan tribes, they respected only power and saw any indication of surrender or appeasement as a sign of weakness to be punished.

What it took was a crushing, humiliating military defeat to rock their world, undermine their belief system, get their attention and convince every man, woman and child they dare not f*ck with us again. Once that's been accomplished, install a military governor and force them to prove they are capable of self-governance.

If we weren't willing to do this from the outset, we should have never gone in the way we did. They speak the language of brute force and ignorance, and we've attempted to engage them in the niceties of western diplomacy.

What we should have done is let the Special Forces do the job of dismantling the Taliban. This we did but then we tried “Nation Building” which in that country will never work.Those people seem to have a strong dislike for any form of government and were just waiting for a excuse to blow up.
Now we should pull out,blowing up anything we cant carry and let the inmates run the nuthouse.
