Vice President Joe Biden spoke Friday at Davidson County Community College in North Carolina, WXII reports:

The tour aimed to shine a spotlight on the importance of community colleges in the training of American workers. [...]

President Barack Obama’s fiscal year 2013 budget proposal includes a new $8-billion Community to Career fund to forge partnerships between community colleges and businesses to provide training for workers.

“Americans are tired of being tired,” Joe Biden said. “It’s clear that the American people have decided it’s time to get up. They’re tired of being told that we’re in a long, slow drift.”

According to ED.gov, the total expenditure on education for the 2004-05 school year is $536 billion.

Apparently, we need to spend more if we wish to have our children educated enough to hold middle-class manufacturing jobs.

Sadly, I can testify that this is true (I teach math and science) - most of the kids that graduate have no critical thinking skills and little basic knowledge of math, science and English.

They do, however, understand diversity, global warming and that banana/condom thing.

Why would I watch a video of a guy giving a speech, while even he himself is asleep? I don’t really know how he does it, speechifying while asleep... just very talented, I guess.

I teach American literature and British literature. Everything you wrote is true. Allow me to add that students can purchase smartphones and pay for the expensive data plans, but can't purchase a seven dollar novel for my extensive To Kill A Mockingbird (sorry don't know how to do italics) unit. We don't have a staff room or lounge, but we do have one staff restroom in which union propaganda is posted. I take my Sharpie with me when I “powder my nose”.

Not newsworthy. It would only be newsworthy if someone stayed awake during a Joe Biden speech...

Unwatchable - even with the sound turned off.

As tempting as it is to crack-wise and try to make something of this, the reality that some people have a hard time staying awake, no matter what is going on around them.

I’m one of those; I could bend my head over and go to sleep right here in the computer chair, right now. I often have difficulty staying awake at movies, even with their very loud soundtracks, and struggle against the sandman when parked in front of the television. That’s one of the reasons I don’t watch much TV.

So, yes — Joe Biden’s a boring, lying/exaggerating plagiarist, but this doesn’t prove that he has that effect on everyone! In fact, I’d probably try to stay awake, just to hear what stupidity what fall out of his mouth this time!

I love “To Kill a Mockingbird”. If they don’t get the book (their loss), you would hope they would be smart enough to rent the movie. Most of them could probably tell you everything about Twilight. No substance and requires very little thought. Sad.

“...forge partnerships between community colleges and businesses to provide training for workers.”

This as been going on since the advent of community colleges. Community colleges exist as much for local kids getting pre-university and technical schooling as providing a source of good employees for local business and industry. And many businesses have provided support.

Ha! Just the other day I mused that women used to say "powder my nose" instead of "go pee." After 35 years of marriage, my wife will sometimes say "go potty", but not often.

Thank you for the display of modesty that I find so attractive in women.

BTW, formatting text is easy. Surround the text with

< I>text< /I>, < b>text< /b>, < u>text< /u>

with no spaces between the carets.

LOL, at home it usually is potty because we are in the middle potty training our son. My, oh my, how my language has changed since having kids. In public however, powder my nose is still my choice.
