... state Senate voted to send the controversial proposal back to committee, a move that effectively kills the bill for the remainder of 2012. ... [T]he vote was 24-14 in favor of preventing the bill from coming up for an up-or-down vote... The measure, which would define the beginning of human life as at the moment of conception, was approved in the House earlier this month and a Senate committee, likewise, signed off on the effort earlier Thursday.

Virginia is far more liberal than a lot of people realize, and that can be laid — literally — at Washington, D.C.’s doorstep.
So Sad
It’s almost always the right that backs down. I’m so sick of that.
Bob McDonnell is a disgrace. Rachel Maddow screamed about “forced vaginal probes” and this idiot blinked. Meanwhile Planned Parenthood REQUIRES vaginal probes before EVERY 1st trimester abortion - they just HIDE the images from women to keep them from knowing that their “clump of cells” is actually a HUMAN LIFE. But McDonnell is too much of a wimp to simply state this, and hold his ground. Forget him for VP. Should have known he was milquetoast when he stooged for Mittens.
Moron and the Democrats crow about beating this bill....
Dear friend,
I’ve got some great news! This afternoon the Virginia Senate voted to kill the Republican “Personhood” legislation that could have banned abortion, outlawed birth control and continued the Republican assault on a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body.
This is a victory for Virginia women and for any person who just wants a government that puts making people’s lives better ahead of injecting itself into their most personal decisions.
This is also a victory for you, and the thousands of people like you who raised their voices to make sure these Republicans knew that Virginians will not tolerate the divisive, dangerous and distracting agenda they are attempting to force on our families.
I want to thank you for your courageous efforts to fight the ‘Personhood’ bill, and to encourage you to keep up the fight against the rest of the terrible agenda that Republicans are pushing this year. Bob McDonnell and his party are still trying to require a woman to endure a mandatory and medically-unnecessary ultrasound before she can undergo an abortion, trying to make it harder for many Virginians to vote and attempting to repeal reasonable protections against gun trafficking.
We won today, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do. Will you click here and contribute $25, $50 or $100 to the continuing Democratic effort to fight Republicans now and to replace them at every level on Election Day with Democrats who will turn the focus back to jobs, education and transportation?
Virginians are waking up to the many ways in which Republican control of government is a disaster for this Commonwealth, its families and its reputation across the country, but it’s up to us to keep the momentum going. Please click here and help us continue to hold Republicans accountable for prioritizing these awful and ridiculous bills over the needs of Virginia families.
Together we can keep the momentum going into November and the years to come and get to work giving the people of this Commonwealth the government they deserve.
Thank you for all that you do,
Brian Moran
P.S. With your help we are going to continue this fight and take our Commonwealth back. Please click here and contribute to that effort today.
“Abortion continues and send money to keep it going!”
Sick bastards.
Pro-lifers need to realize that many elected Republicans are NOT on their side.
