I have taken a Mormon missionary down a couple of notches more than once by asking him about "reformed Egyptian", or the Nauvoo Expositor, or the King Follett sermon.
Mormonism has some pretty weird beliefs, but I do not see any reason why they would necessarily preclude someone from holding political office, and a solid conservative Mormon candidate would certainly get my vote.
I support Gingrich and would vote for Santorum, notwithstanding that they both believe that God is incarnate in a disc of pressed flour, and that it's necessary for salvation that we periodically eat Him.
There are some on this board who don't want Romney as president partially because of his liberalism, but mostly because it would be good for the PR of the LDS and would make them look more mainstream. If that's your position feel free to say so. But I'm not interested in hearing Jane Q. Freeper say "Obama will attack Romney's religion"....that is concern trolling pure and simple.
Too bad they never seem to have any of thise running.
Romney is a liberal because of his mormonism not in spite of it.

I do not think Romney being the nominee would make mormonism more main stream I think mormonism will be laid bare.
My lds family and friends view Romney as the full fulfillment of prophesy, and that is the reason they are supporting him 100%.

Romney can run for any office he wishes, I do not know a single person who says otherwise, however any candidate is who they are because of their beliefs, it is an important know about that to know their core.

I'm sorry I disagree. We all know obama will do anything to win. The democrats have shown these last few weeks how much they care about religious freedom and personal conviction. I often wonder if obama has a conscience. Nothing will be off limits if it stands between him an winning.
I think the people of this country have a right to know what our presidents religion believes. Your beliefs normally directs your path in life. He wasn't a casual mormon, he was a top bishop. I mentioned before we know what Catholics, Christians and even Muslims believe, why not LDS? Why is it such a secret? A person chooses their faith and it's beliefs and should be willing to share that with others and we know mormons do that door to door. I just want the info out there so people can include that in their decision for president. Every single family member and friend I spoke to did not know details and when I told them all but one was either shocked, insulted or angry. What if we have romney as the nominee, the Obama tells the world of there beliefs and people refuse to vote for him because, like me, they feel mormonism is an assault on Christianity or their faith. I take my faith seriously, most people of faith do. Remember, the bible says, my people perish for lack of knowledge. Other people might not care, a lot do.
