Between 2 shootings, ICE agents struggled over gun

The shooting occurred after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Ezequiel Garcia discussed his job performance with the agency's second-in-command in the Los Angeles region, ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said Saturday.

Another agent who attended the discussion and had just left the office rushed back and burst in to disarm Garcia after the shots rang out.

"There was a very, very intense struggle," Kice said. "They were physically struggling over the gun."

The agent eventually drew his own gun and shot Garcia, Kice said. ICE is not releasing the agent's name.

The supervisor, Kevin Kozak, continued his recovery Saturday from at least six bullet wounds, including to the hand, knee and torso, Kice said. Kozak, 51, is the agency's deputy special agent in charge of investigations in the Los Angeles region.

Los Angeles police officers who work in the building on a joint task force for Internet crimes responded to a call for help and aided the bleeding Kozak, Kice said.

"The fact that they were literally right there probably was another thing that was instrumental in his survival," she said.

Garcia joined the former Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1988 and was named criminal investigator three years later. Shortly after the Department of Homeland Security was created in 2003, he was promoted to supervisor for a documents and benefits fraud task force.

Regardless of who the “bad” guy is/was there is definitely something rotten in the department and a thorough investigation needs to be done immediately, before documents etc disappear.

Well since I never, ever hear of an illegal being charged with document fraud I have to assume that this division doesn’t do jack squat.

Yep. Even the cops from agency to agency don’t get along. This has been brewing for years. The locals don’t trust the feds, the feds don’t trust the locals, with endless government alphabet agencies squabbling, not liking or trusting each other.

Funny, we have all these numerous government LE agencies, and our borders resemble a chaotic, lawless Boston Marathon of millions.

It’s become a farce.

I thought the initial reports said it was two guys and a woman. What’s the real deal?

Does Obama have any connection to document forgers?

Actually Obama's connections did him more harm than good. All of the latino sucking up led to incumbent NJ Gov Corzine's humiliating defeat at the hands of a conservative Republican with no war chest to match Corzine's.....and a Lt gov elected----who latinos hated for coming down hard on illegals when she was a sheriff.

<><>Obama directed the WH take over Corzine’s campaign.

<><>Obama campaigned in NJ three times, Biden was there twice.

<><>Obama TV ads ran relentlessly on costly NY media.

<><>Obama put the power of the WH political machine behind Corzine.

The NY Times reported:

(a) every TV ad Corzine put on the air was being screened by Obama’s WH “geniuses.”

(b) Corzine’s aides gave the WH daily briefings.

(c) Obama’s pollsters took over for Corzine’s polling team, and,

(d) White House operatives were on the ground for internal strategy sessions.

(e) Obama sent NJ $17.2 billion "stimulus" which promptly disappeared.

(f) secret strategy sessions were held with latinos;

(g) a Peruvian PAC endorsed Corzine.

To no avail---former Goldman-Sachs exec Jon Corzine lost handily. He is now under investigation in the MF Global missing billions.

Sweet! Knew Corzine was Obama’s guy but didn’t realize ALL the details. If he can loose anyone BO touches can loose.

Money can’t buy you love/elections.

Lately, with the current administration, I’m not sure anyone in ICE is really doing jack squat, much less investigating counterfeiting. Aside from shooting one another, that is.

Since 2003, when Homeland Security was born, and 22 agencies, including US Customs and INS were forced into the same agency, ICE, there’s been a civil war between the agents from those two former agencies. It’s become a turf battle, based on a certain arrogance for one’s own former work and contempt for the other’s. Customs agents saw immigration investigations as beneath them, because they thought their own investigations were complex, highly sophisticated, and purely criminal in nature. (Of course they conveniently forgot about the San Francisco AK-47 importation where they invited the media into the investigation and had the case thrown out as a result.) They tried to refuse to perform any work related to the investigation, location and arrest of illegal aliens. One (former Customs) agent even wrote a letter to the ICE boss saying he was ashamed and embarrassed to have the immigration reference in ICE. That contempt still shows itself in how the management, comprising majority former Customs agents, treats the former INS agents in the ICE midst.

Some think the disciplinary measures against the shooter, and the resultant shooting of the (former Customs) supervisor, were related to this internecine warfare. In a recent survey, ICE was ranked as one of the worst managed agencies in the Fed.

I’ve become convinced that the only thing to do is figuratively burn the entire Federal government to the ground, move it to the middle of Kansas, and start over again from scratch allowing nothing that’s not specifically enumerated in Article 1, Section 8.
