Iranian warships have entered the Mediterranean Sea for the second time in two years, this time after having docked at the Saudi port of Jedda.
The official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted Iranian navy commander Admiral Habibollah Sayari in reporting Saturday's movement of the ships through the Suez Canal on Saturday. The destroyer Shahid Qandi and the Kharg supply ship were docked in Jedda two days ago, the AFP news agency reported.
The last time Iranian warships entered the Mediterranean was in February 2011, when the Kharg supply ship and the Alvand frigate passed through the canal and headed to the Syrian port of Latakia.
Israel's navy was placed on alert in response, and the U.S. expressed concern...

I thought the Saudis were Iran’s natural enemies and scared of them?
The Port of Latakia (destination mentioned in the article) is to the north of Lebanese - Syrian border. To get there they will be passing the Israeli coast and the population centers of Tel Aviv and Haifa. Somehow I think they will have at least one very quiet submerged diesel powered shadow and a few IAF flybys too. Make a suspicious move, such as halting to launch anything that looks like a missile, and they’re gone.
Good chance that supply ship was carrying arms for the Syrian army. Notice that Russia, China and Iran are finding common interests.This is a major failure of Obama’s and Clinton’s diplomatic efforts. Bush for all his faults had Iraq virtually isolated. The major point is that if war breaks out in the Persian Gulf, Iran is not as alone as we would like. They may be much better armed with shore based anti ship missiles.There is a huge danger to our blue water navy now in the narrow confines of the Persian Gulf.

It would be a shame if these fine ships encountered some mysterious sea-creatures that chew holes in steel hulls.
Good! One less ship in the Persian Gulf. They would be easier to dispatch in the Med.
If that happened, I’d write a parody to the tune of either the Edmund Fitzgerald, or I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead, You Rascal You.
