Hey PolitiFact, here’s your death panel
Charleston (WV) Daily Mail ^ | February 17, 2012 | Don Surber

Posted on 02/17/2012 11:15:33 AM PST by Mustang Driver

The liberal apologists at the Tampa Bay Times’ PolitiFact have denied for more than 2 years that Obamacare has death panels. How it could assure us in 2009 of just what was in a law that was not finalized until 2010 is a mystery that defies the laws of chronology; maybe in addition to having the power to divine the truth in politics, the personnel of PolitiFact have the power of prophecy.

If so, they should know what is next: A repudiation of the group’s labeling as Lie Of The Year the death panels. They do exist. the government will in fact dictate just what medical services you will be covered for and just what your insurance will not cover. This is passive-aggressive rationing that will become more aggressive as time goes on. Any objective observer of government action over the last 60 years could predict the incremental takeover of the health industry from non-congressional fiats.

A semi-related post. Are any other Medicare captives like me getting notices that medications they have taken and which had been covered will no longer be covered?? (sorry for that poorly worded sentence).

Not there yet Brother Jim. You’’ll have to explain that to us not-yet-Medicare (understand the captive part — no Medicare, no Social Security),

Meanwhile, the annual cost of treating somebody with HIV is $18,300, but don't expect any rationing in that area.

I’m not medicare age yet, and I do not take drugs of any kind nor do I intend to, but some of my friends do, and believe they need them-are the drugs in question needed by people with certain conditions, or are they elective? If the former, why is payment being curtailed?

Just this year I’ve gotten three notices that BP and kidney medicines would no longer be covered based only on the fact they are not on an approved list authorized for compensation. There is no real explanation or indication that the commonly used medications are not effective. All are drugs for which there are not yet generics. It concerns me as manufacturers often discontinue drugs not covered as they become unprofitable.

With these medications, my kidney functions have gone from 12% of normal to 55%. Right now, I have appealed and an paying the full cost.

It sounds like time to get a lawyer-that always worked for my clients when I was a workers comp casemanager.

By chance, I just got a letter from my plan carrier that my most expensive medicine will be covered based on 55% of cost less deductible. The others are still “under review”. I guess that is progress.

I’m glad to hear that-good luck on the others.

All you have to do is read Dr. Ezekiel Immaneul’s (Rahm’s brother, incidentally, and former advisor to Dear Leader) article in the January 29, 2009, issue of Lancet to see where this is going. No spending for babies (in strict economic terms abortion is so efficient, don’tcha’ know?) and no spending for old folks (they just consume goods and services which can be put to much better use by the “productive” members of our society).

Actually, you don’t have to read the article, just go to the one graphic it contains and the whole story is there. Those of us over 70 with chronic medical problems and not rich are out of luck. I am conditioned to finding a funeral home with a “walmart” special....

I admit to having a strong dislike for Bureauocracies and the language they use. In their initial denials of coverage, they promised a full explanation for their denial. The “full explanation”, this medication is not in our formulary. That merely restates what they initially told me, that the drug was no longer covered, but gave no reason as I understand the term. No one said, “The drug doesn’t work.” They didn’t even say, “We are trying to save money here.” The latter is what they meant but the medication is no all that expensive compared to many others ($253 per month). Well, now I’ll pay a little over half that and, because it works, be thankful it is still available.

Additionally, it ticked me off that I had to go look up “formulary” to discover what they were double talking about.

Ah well, I am relieved.

We're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little more now if we can and the rest next quarter.

You can probably expect only more of the same BS unless we make Obama start looking for a real job in November.
