BERLIN: Angela Merkel's hand-picked choice for the ceremonial post of president was expected to resign on Friday in a scandal over political favours, dealing a blow to the German chancellor in the midst of the euro zone crisis.

Christian Wulff, who has been under fire for months, was to give a statement at 1000 GMT. Merkel abruptly postponed a trip to Rome where she was to hold talks with Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, and scheduled a news conference for after Wulff speaks.

Ironic that an "unusual" loan made to Wulff by a friend who is a banker would bring down the President of Germany.

Germany is the strongest nation in the E.U.

Balance this with the mess going on in Greece. Sounds like Germany may have well annexed Greece with the financial bailout. (Greek fault)

The German president is more of a symbolic figurehead, that's why moral standards are especially high for the office. The real power is with the chancellor.

Questions are swirling over who else may be tainted by the scandal, and if the move is designed to hush things up...

So- Who’s Afraid of Christian Wullf??

I have noticed an interesting thing about this and some other releases, I seem to pick them up from “leftist” sources prior to any of the media.

The only mention of this early this morning was a Reuters piece, but not specific.

During the Iran Election mess a couple of year ago, it seemed that HuffPo always had early info on things there.

Conclusion: The left is globally coordinated now more than anyone will admit. So, I cannot help to wonder what the driving force for the global chaos that is rising is coming from. What Leftist Globalist Financial group is coordinating this?

In the article it looks like these are charges stemming from things that happened in some previous position, before he was President. It looks like some fairly small-potatoes stuff. He got favorable terms on a home loan... got free upgrades for family members on flights... and stayed for free at the homes of some wealthy friends.

Yeesh... if only we could get politicians to step down over little stuff like that.

Wulff belatedly apologised for misleading the Lower Saxony state parliament about a cheap 500,000 euro ($650,000) home loan from a businessman friend.
He has also apologised for leaving a message on the answering machine of the editor of Germany's best-selling Bild newspaper threatening a "war" if the daily published a story about his private finance dealings.

Wulff in sheep's clothing.
