National pollsters have already released surveys showing Rick Santorum taking a lead over Mitt Romney in Romney’s native state of Michigan. Today, three state-based polls concur, showing leads from just under four points to ten points in the key battleground state. The Detroit News poll shows the tightest margin (via Politico’s Morning Blast e-mail):

Gingrich forgotten, Drudge appears to be starting in on Santorum now.

I have a good feeling about this one. Certainly better than I did for the 08 race.

Santorum signs are starting to sprout like morels in May

The trend is what is important. No polls show Romney ahead. This is very bad for Romney. In addition he is experiencing diminishing marginal returns on negative adds. He is having to spend more and more to get meaningful results. Negative add carpet bombing is also doing as much damage to Romney as to his targets.

I'm not saying he won't do it again, in fact he is almost certainly going to turn lose the flying monkeys. I just don't think it will be enough this time.

I noticed on the local TV stations the Mitt Smear Machine has started its full frontal assault on Santorum in the last few days.

That's true. I just saw an ad on FOX that showed Santorum’s very liberal/moderate big spending history. Like Newt, the same kind of “vetting” is considered by them, as fair play. But is not truly fair until the same kind of scrutiny falls on Romney.

The only bad thing about it is, the entire “CONservative” voting block is spinning their wheels and is nothing short of chaotic. This will not end up good. And even worse if Santorum wins.

Santorum is walking right into the democrats contraception trap and will soon self emulate...The women in the party will abandon him. Romney is unelectable because he is a skin walker with nothing to sell but he will be the nominee

Obama and the takers wins... I predict

This is one pathetic citizenry to end up like this. Lets all give up our liberties become subjects for a little security and free rubbers from the Anointed one.

I don't think the Romney attacks will work this time. Its a far more distinct choice than we had in 08. Also in 08 it was a much more crowded field.

I noticed on the local TV stations the Mitt Smear Machine has started its full frontal assault on Santorum in the last few days.

I ride to work in a 3-person carpool that includes one arch-conservative (me), a lib, and a RINO. The RINO has been for Mitt all along. He did show some promise when he worried that Mitt has not completely disowned Romneycare.

However, he always comes up with a remark like "Santorum seems too extreme to me". Turns out he was referring to the out-of-context quote in which Santorum allegedly compared homosexuality to bestiality. He was equally nervous when Newt told that gay dude to vote for Obama. I tried to explain to him that the conservative/republican candidate has to say something in opposition to Obama, and that you cannot expect him to cater to the homo crowd (this is the way the RINO mind works-they want to "get along" with everybody).

I wonder if these out-of-context quotes from Newt and Santorum are being recycled by Mitt and his minions?

I have been thinking about this and have come to a conclusion:

To be a Mitt Romney supporter... you basically have to believe that EVERYONE is wrong

Liberal and Moderates (who support Romney overwhelmingly)are wrong to believe he is one of them

Conservatives (who oppose Romney overwhelmingly) are wrong to believe that he is a liberal (or moderate at best)

All of Romney's ads are geared to make conservatives believe that _________ isn't a conservative, and thus is less conservative than Romney.

But if Romney is arguing that he is more conservative than Santorum or whoever... then he is basically telling all his current supporters that they are supporting the wrong candidate!

I noticed the carpet bombing has begun as well when I watched FOX last night. We'll see if the "out of context" attacks work on Santorum like they did on Newt. What might be more important is how Santorum reacts. If he keeps focused on why Romney is not the right contrast for the general, i.e. he stays focused on issues instead of descending into the food fight, he'll still beat him anyway. Will really be disconcerting to Romney to find that not only that money can't buy happiness, it can't even buy an election sometimes. Gees, what's a rich guy to do?

I've noticed Obama is now picking up on Santorum's meme on bringing manufacturing back. It's a direct rip-off and indicates real fear on the left of Santorum's appeal to the middle.

LOL, SC.

I’m beginning to think that Rinos aren’t that much different than libs. Pre-programmed talking points: “Romney is Conservative(isn’t he?)”, “Romney is the only one who can beat Obama”, “I like the good looking one. yeah, that’s the one: the Ken doll. He seems nice.” (my daughter, unfortunately) or the worse one of all “Mitt understands business and will turn the economy around”.

They are the coiffed women I sit with at GOP luncheons.
An arrogant local GOP chair and a state assemblyman who I had for dinner the other night.

There is no vetting of candidates going on and they employ the analysis depth of a piece of paper. Stubborn as hell and probably most significant: Anti Tea Party indicated by their frequent use of the word “extreme”.
In a nutshell, these brilliant lifelong party folks are just plain stuck on stupid.

The following is an excerpt from a May 2022 Gallup Poll: By a 24 percent margin, 61-37 percent, Americans take the pro-life view that abortions should either be legal under no circumstances or legal only under a few circumstances. Although Gallup doesn’t specify those “few” circumstances, polling data has consistently shown that, when asked about cases such as rape, incest, or the life of the mother, a majority of Americans want all or almost all abortions made illegal — leaving only life of the mother or rape and incest as the exceptions.

Typo Alert: Should read as “May 2011” not 2022

Also, Pro Life is a winning position for Santorum. The pro abortion contigent of the electorate will not vote for a conservative Republican under any conditions.
