Santorum was my 3rd choice line in the sand candidate. He ain’t perfect but he’s not nearly as manipulative and underhanded as the other two.
After that the GOP is on its own.
For an interesting experiment, go back and take a look at some of the threads from the day Gingrich announced he was running.
Santorum? NOT manipulative or corrupt? LOL!

Rick Santorum has vaulted to the front ranks of the Republican presidential nomination race in part by depicting himself as a religious family man of lowly beginnings who would bring needed change to Washington.
But that characterization leaves out two decades in which Santorum was a central and often high-ranking player in Washington politics, with connections to K Street lobbyists and a lucrative consulting career that made him a millionaire.

I prefer the “Scozzafava” threads back when Newt was a shill for the “establishment” GOP.
It’s good humor.
You’re right about Santorum. At least you don’t get the sense that he’d sell his soul to the devil to get a bump in the polls.
He’s not as conservative as I’d prefer, but I don’t think he’s a liar like Romney and Newt, and at least he’s not a total scumbag in his personal life like Newt.
I can pull the lever for him sober. I don’t think I could do it sober for Newt or Romney.
