An Adelson-Romney Deal? (Newt's Super PAC to target Santo on Romney's behalf?)
National Review ^ | Maggie Gallagher

Posted on 02/15/2012 10:25:49 AM PST by Windy City Conservative

Katrina, you focus on the question of whether Adelson is Machiavellian, but a bigger question is: Is Mitt Romney?

Just last week, the media was reporting on private meetings between Mitt Romney’s Adelson, allegedly to get him to stop backing Gingrich. Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Adelson is going to pump $10 million to a Gingrich super PAC to go after Santorum on Super Tuesday.

Romney’s problem is that he has to go negative on Santorum, or he will lose. But if he’s seen as going negative, it will backfire.

Clever political insulation for the Romney campaign? Inquiring minds want to know, but will the MSM ask?

I remind everyone that it is illegal for a candidate to have contact with a Super PAC, even one which supports the candidate. Doesn't this just leave the door open for a Super PAC to misrepresent who they actually support. The Newt Super PAC can do whatever it wants, even if it hurts Newt, and there is nothing Newt can do about it, aside from disavowing it.

Any BIG monies spent by Romeny or on Romeny’s behalf to scorch either Newt or Rick at this point in the primary season is Anti-Reagan, Anti-Conservative, Anti-republican Scorched Earth campaigning to insure a 0bama win in November.

I’m at wits end with this KRAP! I’d almost campaign for 0bama the way I feel about it. Romeny SCORCHING everything that moves in order to win is now POISON to the republican and Conservative cause, and will keep the marxist pResident in the white house another 4 years, if not a LOT longer so much that rides on this election.

Gingrich and Romney have always been closer than presented.

Re-read my initial comment. People do not seem to realize that even though a Super PAC says they are for “Newt”, the candidate (in this case Newt) has no control over what a Super PAC does. Newt could express through the media that he’d like the Super PAC to go after Romney, and the Super PAC could say, “No, we are going after Santorum, our big donors told us too, afterall.” I wish people would wake up and realize that candidates have no control over Super PAC and in fact, are not allowed any relationship with them whatsoever.

“Romney’s problem is that he has to go negative on Santorum, or he will lose. But if he’s seen as going negative, it will backfire.

As far as many Santorum supporters can recall, there was a lot of talk that Rick was Romney’s stalking horse and was working for Mitt Romney.

We're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little more now if we can and the rest next quarter.

“So I guess Newt is a Romney stalking horse.”
__________

I don’t see that. I think Newt realizes that Mitt is not liked and whoever is the last one standing aginst Newt is likely to be the next president. Defeat santorum and then Newt is the persident.
