I’m fairly sure he and his advisors didn’t anticipate that his contraception mandate would result in a knock-down, drag-out fight with the most powerful religious institution in the world.

I'm not so sure this was an accident. He has turned an election on the economy, where he is a catastrophic failure, into one on the culture wars. He has a far better chance of getting his base to the polls if this is about putting Christians in their place than if this is about what a great economic central planner Obama might become.

I was wondering what would happen if all the Muslims refused to pay taxes because some of the money went toward research about pigs. Sounds exactly the same as the Catholic complaint to me.
