By the time my own government finally comes around to issue a travel warning for half of Mexico I know it has really gotten a lot worse and has been very dangerous for a long time. When people I talk to at work who have relatives in Mexico will not travel to see them I think the situation is way beyond a travel warning... "Travel warning? You don't need no stinkin travel warning!..."

I have been to Mexico many times, but will never go again. While most of the people there ARE very nice, there are also growing numbers that view Americans as targets of opportunity. It isn’t worth the risk to go.

I wonder if someone could accurately calculate the odds of robbery/kidnapping/death a tourist driving down and back and visiting for a couple of days non-criminal relatives in various Mexican cities.
Compared to Detroit I’d bet the odds are10 to 100 times higher.

If Detroit were a country it would be called `Mexico.’
