A new poll shows Newt Gingrich maintaining a big lead over his Republican rivals in Georgia with less than a month to go before the state's March 6 presidential primary.

The former House Speaker leads Mitt Romney 43 percent to 29 percent among likely Georgia voters, the poll says. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum had 12 percent and Texas congressman Ron Paul trailed with 6 percent.

The poll shows Gingrich leading in every region of the state except metro Atlanta, where he and Romney are in a statistical tie.

The poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. of Washington, D.C. from Monday through Wednesday, and paid for by 13 daily newspapers with readership across Georgia. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Notwithstanding the recent nat'l polls (which we all know are fleeting and meaningless), Newt's strategy remains as holding the south and doing well in Ohio. If he can, he remains viable.

IMO, between the straw, national etc. polls the GOP is really unsettled about whom they want for a candidate. What a mess.

The caucus today, does it mean anything?
Nor Easterner winner would not be a surprise I guess.
I really dislike caucus.

I find it hard to comprehend that 43 percent of Georgians are falling for one or more of the faces of that northeastern socialist liberal.

I'll go back...A media reporter was on a plane heading for a Newt function....She soon found out that the plane was LOADED with Dems headed for the same event.

IMHO, WE'VE BEEN INFILTRATED BIG TIME.

Stick with Newt. We need experience and a big stick to clobber Obama.

I think I read that in the states that Santorum won, you don't register "party".

GA is Newt’s home state. If he can’t win there, he’s should just pack it in. Actually, he should just pack it in anyway. He has almost nil appeal outside the South. Sorry, but it is what it is.

No reason to be sorry- you’re absolutely right. If he can’t win the South, he has no base. If he does, however, he’ll have as many delegates, or more, than the other candidates- and with that- status and momentum going forward. .

Your pic reminds me of the joke told at CPAC yesterday:

A conservative, moderate and liberal walk into a bar.

The bartender says: "Hi, Mitt!!"

*****************

That may or may not be so. What bothers me about that story, is that it has only one source, Bloomberg. And, in turn, Bloomberg only bases its information on an “unnamed” source.

Bloomberg is a Romney shill. Now, Adelson may well have decided not to give any more bucks to Newt- but, I’m not going to take Bloomberg’s word for it.

“IMO, between the straw, national etc. polls the GOP is really unsettled about whom they want for a candidate”

...basically, no clear majority wants any of them. This is no different than 2008. Obama is likely to win another 4 years.
