Bishops Studying Initial White House Movement on Religious Liberty
USCCB ^ | February 10, 2012 | USCCB

Posted on 02/10/2012 1:25:16 PM PST by don-o

WASHINGTON— The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) sees initial opportunities in preserving the principle of religious freedom after President Obama’s announcement today. But the Conference continues to express concerns. “While there may be an openness to respond to some of our concerns, we reserve judgment on the details until we have them,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, president of USCCB.

“The past three weeks have witnessed a remarkable unity of Americans from all religions or none at all worried about the erosion of religious freedom and governmental intrusion into issues of faith and morals,” he said.

“Today’s decision to revise how individuals obtain services that are morally objectionable to religious entities and people of faith is a first step in the right direction,” Cardinal-designate Dolan said. “We hope to work with the Administration to guarantee that Americans’ consciences and our religious freedom are not harmed by these regulations.”

I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it took me about ninety seconds after reading Obama's lob back to the Bishops to figure out that it was smoke and mirrors. Come on guys!! You started to grow a set. Don't go wobbly.

Not exactly surprised by the regression to the standard bafflegab. Lord have mercy.

the law doesn’t stop people from doing things. It’s the enforcement that does.

So if the Senate’s not gonna enforce its own rules and stand up for itself, Obama’s gonna keep getting away with this. So the Catholic Church did stand up. They said, “You can’t make us do this. This is outrageous.” Obama says, “Okay, fine, fine. I’ll move on. I’ll make the insurance companies do it.” At the end of the day, he’s still mandating that a business or an industry over which he has no legal authority whatsoever must now, at his direction, make available free conception and abortion-related services. He doesn’t have this authority. He didn’t have the authority to make the initial demand; he doesn’t have the authority to make the “compromise.”

And this is how we lose our liberty and how we lose the Constitution. The suggestion that Obama has the power to alter that which he doesn’t have the power to do in the first place, is unacceptable. This is I guess another way of illustrating this is — and this is exactly what happened today, by the way. Obama does something that’s so abhorrent to people that they stand up and say, “You can’t do that.” Making Catholic Church pay for, fund, make available abortion services, contraception services. He doesn’t authority to do that. But the moment he backs down in their minds and shifts the responsibility insurance companies, people say, “Okay, fine. Good.”

He doesn’t have the authority to do either. He got away with it. He just switched the victim in this case. So just like the woman who got angry (in my estimation at the wrong thing) in Wyoming when they wouldn’t let her on the airplane, people today who think President Obama got beat back are missing the point. He wins big. He has just codified now the notion that taxpayers, via insurance companies or whatever, can be forced to provide whatever he demands be provided. And that whoever pays for it, at whatever price he suggests or demands, will become the law of the land. This is not the United States of America. This is not the US Constitution.

Limbaugh today.

Oh, come on! The details are all over the web. This isn’t 1452 and we don’t need to dispatch a courier to Rome.

Obama will not give in to religious principles. To do so he would have to reject his core belief that government has the final say in all matters, public and private. He is a tyrant. Tyrants do not back down.

Obama has hidden the peanut under another shell. The media will try to give him cover. If the Bishops reject the offer they will be denounced and castigated from ABC to CBS.

Hopefully they will have the gonads to denounce this shell game front and center. Dolan needs to go on national tv and face Stepawhashisface, Pelly, and Brian Williams...and simply say “it’s a trick and we are not going along”.

Chances are he won’t. The Bishops have taken a huge beating on the sexual scandals...and the media will denounce them as anti-woman.

We’ll see.

So who pays now?

Every human being in the USA who purchases medical insurance pays.

That needs to happen by sunset tonight.

Barry Obama didn’t back down and this isn’t a matter that he is in any position constitutionally to grant “accommodation.” He first claimed an unconstitutional authority to make a religious organization violate its own precepts; then, when called on that, switched to say that, instead, he was going to mandate that private insurance companies pay for it. Problem is that neither he nor the Congress has constitutional authority to mandate that any private company pay for anything that they want for some third party. Hey, Barry, want a particular person or group of people to have a particular thing? Then take out your wallet and shell out for it. Stop trying to retrofit society for paradise. It’s just YOUR idea of paradise (and a pretty worn-out effete one at that). What about MY idea of paradise that doesn’t include you and your redistributionist buds?

The Catholic church will say that this “compromise” meets with their approval and that all persons of “good conscious” should vote for OBomba....nothing new here.

Nope, they are simply being diplomatic. They will still reject the mandate.

I can already predict what Dolan and the spineless American Catholic Bishops will do. These are the same worldly prelates who lobby for illegal aliens and more welfare spending, and who can always find reasons to grant annulments for adulterous Kennedys, and indulgences for scandal-mongering heretics like Pelosi, Kerry and Biden.

They will cave and accept some fig leaf from Hussein that allows them to claim they’ve “protected religious liberty” while continuing to gorge at the government money trough.

They are philosophically inclined to be on Obama’s side, not God’s. They are a weak reed and they will bend.

The Bishops won’t cave on this. The only group that has caved on this is Democrat and Obama shill Sister Carol Keehan of the Catholic Health Association.

Obama is a lying sack of crap. Nothing he says can be trusted. He will lure the Bishops in and destroy them. It is what he does..

Argus...I fear you are right. The Bishops don’t want a fight if they can avoid it...they will avoid it. The media is loaded and ready to fire...Christians are in their sites.

King Obama’s “accomodation” is a fraud and if the Church goes along they will continue their own slow suicide. How did we get to a place in the USA where Christians have become the enemy of the mainstream media and the beltway elites?

Don’t know, but here we are.

The insurance co pays. The employer pays the insurance co. In the final analysis, it’s the same thing as before! It’s kind of like saying that I won’t vote against Obama; I’ll vote for his opponent.

“The insurance co pays. The employer pays the insurance co.”

Am I getting you correctly - the insurance company bills the Catholic hospital for the contraception insurance that they pay to the individual?

Cardinal -designate Dolan is wavering.

Gimme a break Cardinal, with all due respect how did you get so far up in the heirarchy of the Church when you cannot see through this.

This is one of the most transparent scams I have ever witnessed.Buy this and you can kiss your Church Goodbye.
