It is nutty, but it keeps her in the news so we can continue to point out to that she was shot by a lefty. Just the same, it should not have been named after her, but why do we care when there are so many other more pressing issues like Obama unconstitutionally mandating insurance companies cover and give away services.

Well, she did serve on the House Armed Services Committee, but I don’t think that serving two-and-a-half terms in the House warrants the naming an LCS.

Nor does getting shot warrant it.

I share your sentiment: sorry she got shot, happy she survived, and hopeful she makes as full a recovery as is possible.

I would just modify the question you asked to be specific to the Navy/naval services:

“Prior to being shot, what acts in support of the U.S. Navy/naval services did Representative Giffords perform that were so outstanding that they merit naming a US Navy combatant ship after her?”

Two things, at least:

1. Clung to (ahem) her seat in the US House of Representatives, leaving her constituents unrepresented for over a year while she attempted recuperation.
2. Willingly and unselfishly served as poster child for the gun grabbers and the need for more restrictive gun control laws.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

On a somewhat-related note, I'm surprised Holder & Company didn't move all sorts of gun control legislation through Congress while they had the chance. Now, it'll have to wait until the Second Term, when Obama either again has both houses of Congress doing his bidding or, after he replaces any one of those pesky originalists on the SCOTUS (then, he can just write Executive Orders).

It seems that any lefty Democrat, after being shot by another lefty liberal or radical nutjob, gets enshrined in the National conscienceness as a saint.....or at least honored as a namesake for a ship of the Gator Navy.....I’ll bet the Marines will be thrilled to be riding the Gabby Gifford on their way to battle..... /s
