Boy gets Christmas present of his dreams: a new toilet
JSOnline ^ | 2-6-12 | Rick Romell

Dustin Kruse turned 4 in September.

He has toy binoculars, a gumball machine, two toy workbenches, a set of six metric wrenches - real ones - a plastic pterodactyl that eats stuff and a little metal box where he keeps two tubes of Chapstick. He had three, but one melted.

His well-stuffed bookshelf includes "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham," "Pooh's Grand Adventure," "Albert the Bear" and his current favorite, "Lemonade With a Twist."

He can use a tape measure to figure out how tall a Lego tower is, chalk a pool cue, read like a second- or third-grader, and form a grammatically correct sentence that includes the word " chiropractor."

He likes to ride his four-wheeler, build forts in the woods and stand on his upper bunk, stick a piece of gum on a blade of the ceiling fan and give it a spin.

And he loves toilets.

Two Kohler Co. posters hang on his bedroom wall. On his little desk are assorted Kohler brochures and a thick catalog featuring the firm's plumbing fixtures. And across the hall, in the bathroom, is the real prize. More on that in a bit.

Dustin Kruse, 4, of New Berlin loves everything about toilets. For Christmas, he asked for a Kohler dual-flush toilet, which the company gave to him.

My sad prediction is that “toilet boy” will eventually receive a “swirlie” from the school bully.

To be fair, I’d put toilets right up there with most important inventions for civilizations.

I personally like the Toto brand. Quiet, efficient, and few “maintenance” issues.

Mom & Dad should encourage Dustin to go to trade school to be a plumber... he’ll have guaranteed income.

Kohler is the Cadillac of plumbing. I just love the Kohler Design Center. Open to the Public 7 days a week. Free admission. Dozens and dozens of room vignettes. Better than any home show you’ve ever attended. Nothing is for sale. No wonder the kid went nuts. I’m sure that he enjoyed it more than the Thomas the Tank Engine show his parents took him to earlier in the day.

There is a museum in the basement which has displays of everything they have made over 100 years in Wisconsin, plus displays of artistic endeavors their employees have made in their spare time.

Did you know that the Kohler Company started their business making wrought iron grave markers in the 1800s? They also were the first company to put color in their fixtures.

If you are ever in isconsin and are near Kohler, you must stop at the Design Center. You’ll have a hard time leaving.

Yes, the Japanese have taken the home toilet from a porcelein hole in the floor into the 21st Century.

One of my friend's roomates had a thing for toilets. He was into them like other guys are into cars, to the point of designing and building his own.

Before others on the thread go there....this wasn't some weird potty fetish. He just was interested in toilets, that's all.

Takes all kinds, I suppose.

I think that was the famous Buckingham Fountain, on Chicago's lakefront.

My parents went to the Kohler displays when they were in Wisconsin for my cousin’s wedding. (Mom said it made the trip worthwhile - she was underwhelmed by the wedding, apparently.)
