Sheesh, they’re trying really hard now. These “rumors” are very strategic and have been a problem since the beginning, partly because the “conservative” press is on Romney’s side, and partly because the Romney forces are running an Obama-style media campaign.

Liv-,you may or may not know, these rumors started this morning because Newt called a press conference for tonight- instead of a “victory party”. Speculation was he might drop out because he had no events scheduled.
Ruined my day— until now. -:)

They would lose with Romney than win with Gingrich. I was reading Romneys reaction to the good economic news. They seem to take the administrations point that things are looking up. Maybe they DONT want to win because they fear that things might collapse next year, after they have been in office for six months or so, and they will get the blame. Maybe they are looking forward to 2016, when things are so bad that anything they do will be viewed as positive.

So why should we, the voters, pay any attention to caucuses? They are meetings of SOME politically active people, and not necessarily indicative of the feeling of the rank and file voters. I'll bet that 95% of the party members, and by that I mean registered with a party, have never attended a caucus. Open primaries and political caucuses are just a way for unpopular candidates to win a nomination. Shouldn't have either one!

"Conservative press?" Not at all being sarcastic here but am truly interested in knowing what "conservative press" there is these days?

This has shades of 2008, when Romney floated rumors that Fred Thompson was dropping out. I’m still mad about that one.

Romney’s Mittwit surrogates have been talking to Newt’s biggest donor ken Adelson, trying to convince him not to contribute any more money to Newt’s Super PAC. Donor-poaching is down there on the Maggot level.

He didn’t expect to win Nevada. He said on Greta he was hoping to make a decent showing at 2nd. He also said that Ron Paul always does well in caucus states.
Why should these results, which were fully expected, even trigger a rumor that he is dropping out.
