Swarming their way (gracefully) to a warzone: Amazing flying display by robotic choppers that could one day help our troops

Like some epic computer-generated movie scene, futuristic aircraft swarm around in synchronised fashion and perform impressive mid-air stunts.

But the spectacle is real and the robotic nano quadrotors – despite being not much bigger than your hand – could one day revolutionise warfare.

The miniature helicopters, which have four propellers, are still in their infancy in development but have been extensively trialled in carrying items and manoeuvre through small gaps.

Nice, this stuff is why the day of the maned fighter plane has come to an end. You can build millions of those things for the cost of the fuel in a plane.

And instead of soldiers & dogs, they should have robots detecting landmines.

Go to this link: http://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets/nano-quadrotors-demonstrate-complex-swarm-behavior-2012021/

They also have hyperlinks in the article where you can see them building stuff and making some rather aggressive landings on any surface, even the ceiling.

This is very exciting and very scary at the same time.

With the commies we have in office,
every time I see a military innovation like this, I cringe,

because I know they’re planning on using them against the citizenry/bourgeoisie.

I guess a Nanoquadrotor Swatter shouldn't be too hard to develop.

I have two larger versions of these choppers. They can be built for next to nothing. Very stable. Very capable.

Downside?

Hardly any payload capability. Both of mine have video and WiFi. I've invested about $2k in them and am working on autonomous capabilities.

It's great when your vocation is also your avocation.
