Serbia says 11,000 people trapped in remote villages by snow; Europe’s death toll rises to 123

BELGRADE, Serbia — At least 11,000 villagers have been trapped by heavy snow and blizzards in Serbia’s mountains, authorities said Thursday, as the death toll from Eastern Europe’s weeklong deep freeze rose to 123, many of them homeless people.

The harshest winter in decades has seen temperatures in some regions dropping to minus 30 C (minus 22 F) and below, and has caused power outages, traffic chaos and the widespread closure of schools, nurseries and airports.

The stranded in Serbia are stuck in some 6,500 homes in remote areas that cannot be reached due to icy, snow-clogged roads with banks reaching up to 5 meters (16 feet). Emergency crews were pressing hard to try to clear the snow to deliver badly needed supplies, and helicopters were dispatched to some particularly remote areas in Serbia and neighboring Bosnia.

Around here, they’re giving away their asses (donkeys) because they aren’t good for anything but eating.

Same here. You can pick up the company paper anytime and see an ad for FREE Donkeys

This cannot be. Yesterday I watched the National Barack Channel and they had an entire segment detailing all the record high temperatures in the USA this winter which might be true but not a single word about Europe. Guess it does not fit into their agenda.

I also got a chuckle when they tried to link it to climate change when the same liars last year rebuked any link to climate change when we were experiencing record cold. I guess long term climate change is only linked to short term daily temperatures when they coincide with the narrative the communists in Washington and the media are trying to foist on us.

What, they don’t have helicopters to take food and fuel in to trapped villagers? I mean, in our mountain West we use helicopters to bring food and hay in to the herds in remote areas; why don’t the Serbs do that for their people? Common sense, people. Don’t tell me you don’t have a few helicopters.

I “got people” up that way. (Greenville area.)

Pretty country. Harder in the winter though.

I have never been to the Baltics.
The place looks brilliant geographically but also looks pretty severe.

Its literally a crossroads kind of a place.

In addition to Europe and Alaska, East Asia is also getting hammered with heavy snows. They even had to suspend service on the bullet train from Hamamatsu to Kyoto because of snow, which almost never happens there along the east coast. There were reports of places already having gotten 4 meters of snow, and regular deliveries of food to more rural areas have been interrupted.

All the “global warming” (i.e., WORLD GOVERNMENT) advocates around here are pointing to the (so-far) mild winter as evidence for their cause. But they ignore the severe winter weather in other parts of the world.

They also forget about the harsh, super-snowy winter we had last year, or they even blame BOTH the harsh 2010/2011 and the (so-far) mild 2011/2012 winters on global warming.

You can’t have it both ways!!

May God defend the brave Orthodox nation of Holy Serbia!!!!
