7-year-old 49ers fan commiserates with receiver

On Sunday night, as some 49ers fans fired off death threats to Kyle Williams on Twitter, 7-year-old Owen Shure of Los Angeles began his own correspondence to San Francisco's wide receiver.

Instead of anger, though, Owen's words were filled with empathy.

"Dear Mr. Williams," the first-grader began writing through tear-filled eyes to the goat of the NFC Championship Game, "We just watched the Playoff game. I feel really bad for you but I wanted to tell you that you had a great season. you sould be very proud, so I wanted to say thank you."

Those words were in stark contrast to the hate-filled messages Williams received after his two fumbles led to the Giants' final 10 points in their 20-17 overtime win over San Francisco.

Owen's initial response to Williams' second fumble wasn't sympathy, but sadness.

The owner of jerseys of stars Frank Gore and Patrick Willis, Owen re-enacts plays while watching 49ers games. He wakes up each morning to Gore, the running back whose Fathead - a life-sized, cutout poster - commands one of his bedroom walls. He refers to Alex Smith as "Alex," as if the Niners quarterback is one of his playground buddies.

So when Williams' last fumble all but sealed the loss, Owen responded like any heartbroken 7-year-old: He began crying uncontrollably.

"He was inconsolable," Michael Shure said. "I was trying to get him to stop crying and I said, 'If you feel like this, imagine how Kyle Williams feels.' He thought about it for a second. And he processed it in a way that a 7-year-old does. And then he said, 'Should we write him a note to tell him it's OK?' I said, 'That would be a great thing to do, Owen.' "

God bless that little boy. What a good Dad for encouraging him to do this.

This little boy is a true fan, showed more maturity than many adults and his parents should be so proud of him! If he plans on ever playing football, he has learned a lesson: no one person wins the game. It is a team effort. Just my two cents.

It’s very touching to hear about a kind, thoughtful child. The dirt-bag adults who made death threats can learn something from this little boy.
