Obama pushes for financial aid ‘shopping sheets’ that clearly spell out college costs

NEW YORK — President Barack Obama wants to make it easier to size up the cost of college.

As part of his broad plans to make college more affordable, Obama said Friday that he would push for financial aid “shopping sheets” that make it easier for families to comparison shop between schools.

Federal education officials say the goal is make adoption of the form mandatory for schools to maintain access to federal aid.

To address the issue, the Department of Education and the newly created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rolled out a model financial aid form in October and asked for the public’s comments on how it could be improved. On Friday, the CFPB said feedback indicated the most important figure for students is the amount of debt they would have upon graduation.

That's Step 1.

Step 2. You will teach only approved curriculum.
Step 3. You will require your students to complete courses of study in minority cultures, marxism and devotion to their leader. Step 4....

At some point even they will say, "Enough!"

I actually think this is a pretty good idea. There were so many added costs when I was in school.

Duh. I think we found the source of the high cost, Mr President. It's first the AFT which is the AFL-CIO local for teachers, at the college where I work. And our college administrators must join the "Teamsters." There are about 5 other unions at the college as well - classified, cafeteria, custodial... No one can be fired, no competition allowed. Gee, why are costs so high?

Hum? When my kids applied for college, they got specific cost listed as well as program from every college they were interested in. So trying to figure out is he taking credit for something that already is in place or that he doesn’t know its already in place.

Just saw a segment on PBS, where the President of the University of California (UC) system said that 1/3 of tuition revenue goes to providing grants to low income students. In addition, he said that 55% of UC students pay NO tuition. The whole point is to ensure access for the poor and minorities.

Sounds kinda like the Federal TAX System—don’t it?

If the government is picking up the tab for the cost either through grants or through student loans that are later forgiven, students have no incentive to comparison shop, and colleges have no incentive to keep tuition low.

Because of the heavy subsidies to public (inferior unionized) colleges, the cost will APPEAR to be lower.

Which will make the EFFICIENT SCHOOLS, the private ones that cover their own costs with needed prices, look relatively “too pricy.”

Thus allowing Socialist in Chief to bash private education, as “over priced” and “greedy.”

The Rats spin & cheat, to force more nationalization of services and make socialism look “good” and “affordable.” It’s an outrage.

Get rid of liberal arts programs. Black studies, women’s studies, GLBT tolerance programs more than doubled the cost of college programs for everyone.

As always, the wealthy don’t care about the cost, the entitlement generation get low coat education and it is all at the expense of the middle class.

When I was in college in the late 70's I had the cost figured out down to the class minute. Every time I cut class it was costing me $45.00.

Yeah, that was 30+ years ago.
