In the midst of the battle over SOPA and online piracy, incubator Y Combinator is looking to fund startups that “Kill Hollywood.”

In a “request for startups” to apply for funding, Y Combinator argues that Hollywood has peaked and is facing its own demise. It’s also run by people who are “so mean and so politically connected that they could do a lot of damage to civil liberties and the world economy on the way down. It would therefore be a good thing if competitors hastened their demise,” the statement says.

Mountain View, Calif.-based Y Combinator, which has backed prominent startups such as Airbnb and Dropbox, is therefore looking to invest in companies that will compete with the TV and movie industries. What’s going to kill Hollywood is not filesharing, the firm argues.

“What’s going to kill movies and TV is what’s already killing them: better ways to entertain people,” the statement says. Y Combinator encourages startups to create something that will entertain people 20 years from now, either through new ways to produce and distribute media, new games, or new social sites or apps.
