When Bud speaks, one ought to listen. I hope any Romney fans who might be lurking out there will stop for a minute and think about what this means; namely, Newt is miles closer to Reagan than Romney ever will be. If you loved Ronald Reagan, you cannot possibly favor Romney over Newt. Please, for the love of God, McFarlane knows what he’s talking about and would not lead conservatives astray.

Following that assignment he became Military Assistant to Henry Kissinger and Brent Scowcroft.

Not what I'd call a basis for recommendation. Further, I remember well an interview with Bud McFarlane detailing what a terrific investment developing Pakistan would be. How'd that turn out?

He is a co-founder (with Dr. Henry Kissinger) and Vice Chair of the America-China Society,

Like I said.

No thanks. An endorsement like this is one that Gingrich can do without. McFarlane is the prime example of why you don't allow career artillery officers to play diplomats. His ineptness micromanaging the peacekeeping mission in Beirut played a major role in the Iranians bombing of the BLT headquarters. Those too young to remember should read a copy of The Nightingale's Song.
