Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) on Keystone Pipeline: ‘Twenty Thousand Jobs Is Really Not That Many Jobs’
Big Government ^ | 1-25-2012 | Joel B. Pollak

This morning, Rep. Jan Schakowsky appeared on the Don Wade and Roma show on WLS-AM Chicago to comment on President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. Schakowsky praised the president’s green energy initiatives, claiming that the (recalled) Chevy Volt “is doing pretty well” and defending Obama’s failed investment in Solyndra.

When the hosts asked her to defend President Obama’s decision to block the development of the Keystone pipeline, Schakowsky did not dispute that the project would create jobs, but denied that these jobs were significant:

"Twenty thousand jobs is really not that many jobs and investing in green technologies will produce that and more. But I’ll tell you what, you know it seems to me that the Republicans would rather have an issue than a pipeline."

When the hosts pointed out that Schakowsky’s union allies support the pipeline, she was speechless.

Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN), who responded to Schakowsky’s comments:

"Tell that to the twenty thousand people that woke up this morning and didn’t have a job to go, “Well, these don’t really matter.” I mean this not only is jobs, this is less dependence on Middle East oil. And here we have you know, the President talking about becoming energy independent but he turns down the easiest way to do that."

Green technology. That’s the buzz word.

In Stalin’s 1930’s, the buzz word was collective.

Same result.

It reminds me of when Mayor Nagin of New Orleans wouldn’t use the school buses to evacuate New Orleans because it would only help 100,000 people.

What an elitist witch! Tell that to someone who doesn’t have a job and wants one (which would of course exclude her voters).

Heard some GM suit today (or yesterday) say that there are less than 8,000 Volts on the road.

If we don't start with the tar & feathers now, we will never get rid of these lunatics.

20,000 jobs?
That is a gross understatement.
Lets talk about the multiplier and spinoffs. What about all the people who indirectly contribute to the pipeline? I wonder what the complete budget is and what part is provided by America and Americans.... LEts see; 7 billion projected cost for 20,000 jobs? That’s pretty substantial./s Now, if someone bought some steel and welding rod, it would all be different!

Now, lets talk about energy pricing and security.

How did this bubblehead get there?

I'll remember that when the unemployment numbers edge down by 20,000 or so and see how these elitist liberal know nothing whack-jobs react to the numbers then!

That’s only the direct jobs. 20,000 well paid jobs spin off many more in support industries. Dems always use a static analysis when it comes to tax increases and decreases, and regulatory conduct. Increase taxes by 10% and you’re not going to increase revenue by 10%. Decrease taxes by 10% and the additional investment will make up for any temporary loss in revenue. Let the private sector create 20,000 direct jobs and it will spin off tens of thousand more.

With these folks, neither 20,000 jobs or $1,000,000,000 is a big deal.

Hope the voters add one more to the list of unemployed when she runs for re-election.
