Two Mexican medics ridiculed for dropping a human heart while it was being transported to a hospital for a transplant can breathe a little more easily after the recipient, Erika Hernandez, was discharged from hospital.
The men were widely lampooned after they spilled the contents of a cooler box containing the organ while rushing to the La Raza hospital in Mexico City two weeks ago. But the operation went ahead as planned and proved successful. "I cannot believe that I'm still here and well," Hernandez said. "It is thanks to the person who donated the heart I can be here."
Dr Jaime Saldivar said Hernandez does not know that the accident made international news, adding that it would be up to her family to tell her.
Hernandez, who was born with a congenital heart defect, was one of three transplant patients at a press conference to help boost organ donation. The 27-year-old hair stylist left hospital in a wheelchair but looked rosy-cheeked as she addressed reporters.

La Raza hospital...? I wouldn’t want to be a gringo in that place.
That video was very disturbing. First off the thought of a reusuable cooler bothered me. Then why 2 people had to run while holding the cooler handle??? Thank GOD that the woman got her heart and is on her way to recovery.

La Raza inside Mexico means something different.
It is almost like saying “American Hospital” inside USA
“La Raza” is a synonym for “Mexicans” inside mexico. What happened was that originally the 10% of Spanish immigrants ruled over the 90% Indian and Mestizo mexicans. The spanish, despite living in Mexico for 300 years did not consider themselves Mexican. They considered themselves “Spanish”. Thus there was no Mexican identity.
So, Mexicans, when they threw off the yoke of Spain, said that all the “bloods have mixed” and the result is a new Race, the “La Raza”, the beginning of a Mexican identity
They infact celebrate Dia de la raza, to celebrate the beginning of a Mexican identity
I have ZERO issues with them doing this in Mexico. If in Mexico, be proud to be Mexican.
But when you come to America, then embrace being an American
Whoops !
Abbey Normal, ha ha!
I could just see it now, where the heart starts beating on its own skipping across the lot while the medics frantically try to catch it.
They just threw the heart back in the cooler, and never missed a beat...
